Day Trip to San Juan Island
In my (humble) opinion, there is no place more beautiful in the entire world than the San Juan Islands in Washington State. The water, beaches, tree-lined islands, mountains in the background! A ferry crossing by (if you’re lucky, maybe an orca!) – it’s breathtaking. Now, I realize I’m a native pacific northwest girl, and I’m a bit partial… but even if you don’t totally agree with me, a day trip to Friday Harbor is still a great way to visit the San Juans. If you’re looking for a full day summer adventure with your kids or you have some family visiting from out of town, try this day trip to Friday Harbor and San Juan Island!
Woodland Park Zoo
Hopefully this post will be my least viewed, because you are already regular visitors to the Woodland Park Zoo. If for some crazy reason you are not, it’s time to get to it! Seattle has a great zoo right near the Greenlake neighborhood. It’s not a huge place and can be experienced in a half day. But the exhibits are really well done and they have some great animals. If a visit to the zoo isn’t something you’ve done with your family (or if it’s just been awhile…), read on for how we take an adventure to the Woodland Park Zoo.
School Work Keepsake Book
It’s an age-old question: what do I do with all that crap (sorry – I mean beautiful art work) my kids bring home from school??? I have a friend (you know who you are…) who enthusiastically admires her children’s crafts, gives them the perfect amount of praise, and then subtly throws it all right into the trash! She has zero guilt about doing this – it’s amazing!!! I unfortunately am not blessed with that guiltlessness. So I’ve come up with a little process that does allow me to throw their work away… guilt free… eventually…

I’m Annie Dolan and my husband, Kevin and I are raising our 3 boys in the Pacific Northwest.
An adventurous spirit was ingrained in me from a young age by my parents, who took me on day trips and long trips around the Seattle area. As my brother and I got a bit older, the adventures grew as well, and our family traveled to exciting places like Greece and the Baltic Sea!
I want to raise my boys in a similar way, but unfortunately my perfectionist personality often gets in the way of spontaneous adventures. I’ve decided to force the two to meld together and have fun family adventures that are well planned.
